Pit or Palace?

Alright everyone — coming to you with an old-school one today.

So, you know the story of Joseph and his brothers, right? If not, check out Genesis 37. They couldn’t stand him. They were jealous. “Oh, here comes the dreamer!” and all that. Yeah — salty.

They threw him in the pit and then eventually sold him off.

Now, we’re not going into all that today… well, kind of. But here’s the question for us: Which path will you choose?

Stay with me.

After all that time — after all the betrayal and hurt — Joseph eventually ends up in a position of power. The tables turn.

I’m sure some of us have been in this situation. After all this time, right? This person shows up. You know, that person. Mhm.

What are you going to do? Because now you're in a position to show your stuff. You have the upper hand.

Are you going to show them the love of God?
OR
Are you going to do as they did to you?

What's going to be the path you choose?

You see, there's never just a little bit of anything when it comes to our emotions or our actions.

“I was just a little bit upset.”
“I was just a little angry.”
“I just wanted to teach them a little lesson.”

Umm, no.

Our emotions and actions can spiral fast — and if we’re not careful, they can lead to destruction.

Look at Joseph’s brothers: their jealousy pushed them to sell their own brother! WOW.

Thank God that what they meant for evil, God turned it around for good. (If you want a little light reading, check out Genesis 45 and 50.)

As mentioned before, there's never just a little bit of anything when it comes to our emotions or our actions — especially when we find ourselves in a vulnerable space in a particularly hard season.

That’s the tension we all face — because pain and power test our hearts in the same way.

So today, you and I can choose.

We can choose to stay in that dark pit, letting that hurt consume us...
or we can head to the palace by embracing God’s goodness and letting the hurt end with us.

The pit feels familiar — it feeds our pain.
But the palace? That’s where healing happens. That’s where freedom begins.

So… pit or palace?
You choose.
